After breaking through for their first win in yonks against the Bulldogs in Round 3, the ensuing fortnight has been rough sailing for the Broncos. The reigning wooden spooners have been towelled up in back-to-back matches, going down 40-6 to Melbourne at 35-6 to South Sydney. It doesn’t get any easier tonight, with the reigning minor premiers looking in inflict more misery.
The Panthers, on the other hand, are rolling along nicely. They’ve won all five of their matches so far this season, with all but one coming by at least 20 points. Last week’s 30-10 win over Canberra was arguably the most impressive of the lot – a comprehensive win over a quality opposition.
It was a 25-12 win for Penrith when these sides met last season which, amazingly, was their first win over the Broncos in five attempts. The Panthers have a poor record at Suncorp Stadium, winning on just two of their last ten visits, and are hunting consecutive wins at the ground for the first time since 2003.
