Round 10 of the NRL season continues tonight as the Canberra Raiders take on the South Sydney Rabbitohs at GIO Stadium. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match, starting from 7:35pm AEST.

Fourth plays second tonight in what is undoubtedly the match of the round. We know that Souths are already premiership contenders. Tonight’s match will also give us an indication as to whether Canberra are also a genuine contender in 2019.

It’s difficult to know what to make of the Raiders loss to the Roosters last weekend. Down 30-6 at one point, the Raiders fought back to 30-24 and within striking distance at the end. Whether that was due to the Raiders upping their game or the Rooster struggling with injury was unclear.

What is clear is that Ricky Stuart has his Raiders side performing at its best level for a number of seasons. The English connection is working well. One member of that club, John Bateman, is again on the sidelines this weekend.

In team changes, Bailey Simonsson replaces the injured Jordan Rapana on the wing. Nick Cotric moves to centre with Michael Oldfield starting on the wing. Sebastian Kris takes Simonsson’s place on the bench.

Talking of English connections, the Rabbits have three Burgess brothers suiting up this weekend. Souths are travelling very nicely with early season fan fears around Wayne Bennett proving unfounded.

An impressive forward pack, classy halves and a left side attack, on par with the Roosters, will cause plenty of issues for the Raiders defence.

Alex Johnston is out with a knee injury with Corey Allan shifting from wing to fullback. Mawene Hiroti comes in on the wing to play his 2nd NRL game.

Prediction
Injuries to Joey Leilua, Rapana and Bateman halted the Raiders’ charge last weekend and the team will be keen to atone at home tonight.

With the exception of Alex Johnston, the Rabbits are at full strength this weekend. I expect that to be the difference in the end, with the Rabbits to win what should be a very entertaining game of football.
