The first of the Sunday afternoon games sees the 15th-placed Canterbury Bulldogs hosting the Melbourne Storm at Belmore. Join The Roar from 2pm (AEST) for live scores and a blog of the game.
These two teams, somewhat surprisingly although for different reasons, both come into this game off the back of a win in the previous round.
How the Bulldogs turned around a 16-0 deficit last week against the Titans is anybody’s guess, and it’s the type of performance that often has a coach thinking to themselves: Yes, it’s a positive scoring 22 points for a win, but why did they have to come back from 16-0 down in order to do it?
Giving up a 16-0 lead against the Storm will not be as easy a deficit to overcome this time around.
There are a lot of problems that the Bulldogs are having this season, the biggest issue in the main being the scoring of points.
The Bulldogs don’t boast the worst defence in the comp, they, in fact, have a better overall completion percentage than the Storm, so the problems for the Bulldogs are in attack.
Where do their points come from?
At just 136 points scored this season, Canterbury have the worst attack in the comp, so it will be an absolute must for Keiran Foran and Jack Cogger to start clicking in the red zone.
As for the Storm, they got an almighty fright last week against the Tigers.
Made to work for their 2 competition points, the Storm won essentially on the back of the fact that they are a team that just knows how to win games.
Craig Bellamy, you still feel, is a man that is not yet comfortable with his side, and in some ways, this Storm side (despite its lofty table position) is showing a characteristic not known in Bellamy coached teams: Inconsistency.
World beaters one week against Parramatta, they stumble over the line at home against the Tigers in the next.
Who knows which Storm side will show up for this occasion?
Prediction
Even a seemingly inconsistent Storm side is still a formidable opponent, so when the second-placed Storm are playing the 15th placed Bulldogs, you can’t go against overall form in 2019.
