Cronulla made the most of their chances as they claimed the points in their first home game for the season.
The Titans were the busier of the two sides early in attack, but the first score came for the Sharks through Sione Katoa.
The momentum was well and truly swung by the opening try as Katoa crossed again before Josh Duggan scored the third try for The Sharks.
Five minutes out from half time Briton Nikora scored his first career try, and Shaun Johnson converted to make it 20-0 at the break.
The Titans started the second half with the same urgency that they started the 1st. Difference being they managed to score.
Brenko Lee scoring Gold Coasts first points of the season before Michael Gordon converted.
20-6 is how it would remain as skill errors, cramp and general sloppiness would creep into both teams.
Sharks and Titans both crossed once more each, but had their tries correctly overturned.

Fresh off the news that skipper Paul Gallen will be retiring at the end of the season, the Cronulla Sharks have that little bit extra incentive to go out and perform in their first home match of the season, where they’ll host the Gold Coast Titans. Join The Roar from 3pm (AEDT) for live scores and coverage.
This afternoon will see Paul Gallen draw level with Andrew Ettingshausen for most games in a Cronulla top, as he runs out for the 328th time.
The Sharks will be looking to improve on their one try against the Knights last time out.
The Titans however, will be looking for their first points for the season after being kept to 0 in the wet against the Raiders.
Sharks will go into this unchanged, while the Titans have been forced into two changes.
Tyrone Roberts injured his Achilles and Dale Copley injured his calf, both in the match against Canberra. Titans will still be without Ash Taylor in the halves, as he recovers from a quad injury.
Prediction:
Both teams lost their Round 1 fixtures. The Sharks lost a close one to Newcastle, while the Titans failed to score against the Raiders.
Titans to break their duck for the season, but the Sharks should be too strong in this one.
Titans to score. Sharks by 12.
