Round 17 wraps up with the Cronulla Sharks looking to shore up their spot in the top eight with a win over the New Zealand Warriors. Join The Roar for this Sunday afternoon battle with live scores from 4:05pm (AEST) as the second of the year’s bye rounds commences.

The Raiders, Knights, Titans and even the Cowboys will be eagerly awaiting the result of this one, with the Sharks currently holding the eighth spot that appears to be anyone’s for the taking in the run home. The Warriors, too, will know that a win by 10 points or greater will see them leapfrog the Sharks themselves.

Josh Hannay’s team have made a habit of clinching thrillers, winning three of their last five games by two points or less. However, their four-match winning streak came to an unexpected halt with last week’s loss to the Broncos, a sign of the flakiness of this team.

The loss of Will Chambers’ experience is a big blow as he heads to Melbourne for the birth of his third child, with Connor Tracey in the box seat to replace him at 3. The Sharks will be aiming for their eighth victory over the Warriors in their past nine encounters.

The Warriors have been the Sharks’ polar opposite in the close-game stakes, losing three of their last four games narrowly. They’ve been sunk by last-gasp field goals against the Cowboys and Dragons, while being on the wrong side of a low-scoring scrap against the Knights. Win a couple of those and finals are well and truly on the cards, but the New Zealanders now have precious little wriggle room in the run home to keep afloat.

Nathan Brown has plenty of big names back in the frame for this must-win clash, with Reece Walsh and Kodi Nikorima returning, while Matt Lodge makes his Warriors debut after splitting from the Broncos just days ago. Another recruit in Chad Townsend, however, will miss with a shoulder injury.
