The Cronulla Sharks and Newcastle Knights meet in Round 4 NRL action at PointsBet Stadium in Sydney. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 6pm (AEDT).

Two in-form teams meet in what looks a real opportunity for both to establish themselves in the top eight at an early point in the season.

Newcastle were let down by back rower Mitch Barnett last week and and subsequently fell away after his send-off against the Panthers.

The Sharks proved far too good for a Dragons team many thought were improving more than what they showed last week, and both teams currently sit in the top four heading into this clash.

There has been much to like about the Sharks thus far in 2022, with some believing they are a genuine top-eight contender and the form of Nicho Hynes and Dale Finucane suggests they have nailed the recruitment game that all clubs seek to master during the off-season. Both will be once again key in this clash, with Matt Moylan and Blayke Brailey providing other sources of spark that will certainly challenge the Knights.

The Newcastle forward pack has been impressive this season and Jake Clifford’s partnership with Adam Clune has given the Knights poise and control through the centre of the field. With Kalyn Ponga yet to find his best form and back in the team this week, there is still much upside to Newcastle and the Sharks will be a good test of their mettle tonight.

Prediction
It is hard to go past the Sharks in this one, with some clear evidence on show over the first three weeks suggesting that they could well be playing finals this season. The Knights will be willing, yet the class around the ruck and on the edges in attack could well win it for the home side.

Sharks by 12.
