Match result:

The Cronulla Sharks have scored a 15-point win over the South Sydney Rabbitohs, a margin that didn’t fully reflect their impressive performance.

Cronulla were excellent from start to finish, and while they had the odd defensive lapse, they were mostly in control of the 80 minutes.

Match preview:

The Cronulla Sharks will be out to make it two on the hop and get their finals push back on track as they get set to do battle with the South Sydney Rabbitohs in the shire. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 7:35pm (AEST).

The two sides might be separated by a number of spots on the ladder coming into this Round 20 clash, but their styles of play are following a similar trajectory right at the moment, and for their own separate reasons, this is a vital game.

The Sharks kept themselves alive with a vital two-point win at home over the North Queensland Cowboys, but if they are going to play finals footy, this is another must-win contest for the black, white and blue.

They are only two points out of the eight, but there is such a logjam for positions that every game is critical.

Cronulla’s attack has been the big problems in recent weeks. While, with the exception of a trip to Melbourne, their defence has been strong, they have made a lot of errors and looked very clunky trying to get the combination of Shaun Johnson and Kyle Flanagan to gel.

South Sydney, while at the other end of the table, will also be looking to make a statement about their form, which has been ordinary despite the wins.

In fact, it’d be fair to say the Rabbitohs have gone through most of this season without replicating the performance they put together in the opening round of the season.

Depite that, they sit in third place, having turned around a four-game losing streak in the last fortnight with a pair of scratchy wins over the Cowboys and Dragons.

Like the Sharks, their attack has struggled, and it’s a case of execution which has let them down, rather than genuine clunkiness, but there is still a lot to work on for the men from Redfern if they want to challenge in the finals, although a double chance and top four spot is just about locked in with some weeks to go.

Prediction
The Sharks are incredibly tough to beat in the Shire, and even more so when their season is virtually on the line. They scrapped, clawed and fought their way to a win last week, and I expect them to pull a similar rabbit out of the hat this time around.
