In a rubber so dead you could build a pyramid for it, the Gold Coast Titans and St George Illawarra Dragons – the bottom two teams on the NRL ladder – will meet in the final round of the season on Saturday night. Join The Roar for live scores from the match, starting from 7:35pm AEST.

There’s no way around it, both of these clubs have had wretched seasons. Fans of both will be looking forward to the end of the season and hoping for better things from 2020.

The Dragons are destined to finish in fifteenth – they’ve experienced only seven wins so far and even if they get the victory here, are simply too far behind the competition’s other battling sides to move now.

That’s true also of the Titans, who have had only four wins all season long and wrapped up the wooden spoon a while ago. Their abysmal points differential at -273 is the worst in the league, unsurprisingly.

Dragons coach Paul McGregor is under heavy fire after a disappointing season, and the odds make it seem likely this will be his last game in charge of the club, pending an off-season review.

This one is going to be a long way from game of the year, but there’s a certain macabre interest in whether Gold Coast can sneak one last win for the year and possibly put the last nail in McGregor’s coffin.
