The NRL’s Magic Round continues tonight with the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles taking on the Brisbane Broncos at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match, starting from 8:05pm AEST.

It’s technically a home game for Manly but the reality will be very different, with the Broncos hoping for a big Brisbane crowd to help get their season back on track.

The Manly Sea Eagles are the surprise packets of the 2019 NRL season, with Des Hasler’s team sitting in sixth place on the ladder after having five wins in the first eight rounds.

The win over the Bulldogs last weekend had plenty of merit, with the Sea Eagles winning 18-10 without the services of Daly Cherry-Evans and Tom Trbojevic.

There is a real gritty determination to this Manly team and Hasler takes plenty of credit for that.

That grit will need to come to the fore again this weekend, with more injuries at Brookvale. Api Koroisau will play 5/8th in place of the injured Lachlan Croker, with Manase Fainu starting at hooker.

Addin Fonua-Blake is also out with injury, replaced by Toafofoa Sipley. In some positive news for the club, Jorge Taufua returns on the wing.

The Broncos have also been a surprise packet in 2019, but not in a good way. 2 wins out of their first 8 matches has them sitting equal last on the ladder.

The rumblings are growing stronger that all is not right in Brisbane and they desperately need a win to stay in touch with the top 8. Team leaders such as Darius Boyd and Matt Gillett need to lead from the front in this game.

Anthony Seibold had wielded the axe this week, dropping James Roberts and Jamayne Isaako from the squad whilst Tevita Pangai finds himself on the bench.

Kotoni Staggs has been recalled to the starting side while Gehamat Shibasaki gets a start on the left wing. Thomas Flegler will start in place of Pangai. Andrew McCullough is out with a MCL injury, replaced by Jake Turpin.

Prediction
If Manly were playing at Lottoland, I would pick them. Taking their home game will hurt them this weekend, as the Broncos were last start winners at Suncorp.

The loss of Fonua-Blake is massive for Manly and Martin Taupau will have his hands full against the big Broncos pack.

It will be close but the Broncos need to win to keep their season alive. I’m predicting they will do that and win by four points.

Brisbane Broncos by 4 points.
