After a poor start to the season for both teams, the Warriors and Broncos have recovered some winning form in recent weeks which makes tonight’s contest a fascinating one between two sides more or less back on track to make the top eight.
The Broncos are coming off a finals-like intensity victory over reigning premiers the Sydney Roosters, and that is just the win Anthony Seibold’s troops needed to regain belief in a premiership cause that looked lost.
The Warriors meanwhile are coming off a couple of wins over the Dragons and Panthers who are both out of form. Regardless, both matches were away from home so any win for NZ in that regard is priceless.
The great news for Warriors fans concerns the fact that former Broncos half Kodi Nikorima has settled just fine in New Zealand colours, and his partnership with Blake Green in the halves will blossom given time.
If Green, Nikorima and Roger Tuivasa-Sheck can all combine, the Warriors now have at their disposal a very handy playmaking spine that should ignite their attack.
Prediction
It all comes down to attitude tonight. The Broncos knuckled down in a war against the Roosters and prevailed.
The Warriors need to brace themselves for an arm wrestle in a match where the outcome is crucial for each side’s finals hopes.
Momentum can come and go, and both teams will be keen to keep that winning feeling during the crucial Origin period.
Although the Broncos were highly impressive against the chooks, the Warriors at home are yet to click and may just use tonight’s match against Brisbane to ignite their season.
