Round 25 of the NRL premiership continues with the New Zealand Warriors hosting the Manly Sea Eagles at Daniel Anderson Stadium in Auckland. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 6:00pm (AEST).

The Warriors come into tonight’s game in third position, with five straight wins under the collective belt, with excellent fullback Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad back from a head knock, and with the team riding a wave of excitement and goodwill on both sides of the Tasman Sea.

And yet, a nagging doubt remains. To an extent, that’s natural given the Warriors haven’t been genuine premiership contenders in well over a decade. But it’s also born of some unconvincing recent performances, with the Warriors labouring to put away the 12-man Titans and the last-placed Tigers in the past fortnight.

Is winning despite decidedly patchy form a virtue, or are the wins papering over some growing cracks?

Manly will surely give us a clearer indication of the Warriors’ true form tonight than the hapless Tigers managed, with the Sea Eagles having troubled league-leading Penrith last weekend and still clinging to a very faint hope of playing finals.

In team news, the Warriors are back at full strength with the return of Nicoll-Klokstad, but dummy-half Wayde Egan is in some doubt after a throat injury forced him off early in last weekend’s win over the Tigers.

The Sea Eagles will be without Brad Parker and Ben Trbojevic, with Morgan Harper and Kelma Tuilagi taking their places.

In stadium news, the Warriors are supporting ongoing fundraising efforts on behalf of their former coach Daniel Anderson by, among other things, renaming Go Media Stadium as the Daniel Anderson Stadium for tonight’s game.

Prediction

On the recent form of both teams, a tight, tense affair, heavily influenced by veteran halves Shaun Johnson and Daly Cherry-Evans seems most likely. The Warriors should just scrape home by virtue of Johnson’s boot, one way or another. Warriors by 2
