Match result:

The South Sydney Rabbitohs have put in a dominant performance across the ditch, picking up an important two competition points and for and against boost to beat the New Zealand Warriors by 21 points at Mt Smart Stadium.

The visitors were ahead of the game from the first points to the last minute, but still have plenty of improvement left in them, after a tough stretch in the lead up to halftime and some clunky looking attack at times.

The Rabbitohs had the first two tries and were at one stage up 14-0, only to let in back to back tries in as many minutes to let the Warriors head into halftime just four points behind.

It would be the last points the Warriors scored though, as the Rabbitohs continued to grind away and stay on the front foot, kicking a couple of penalty goals and then adding a pair of tries to take the game away, before Adam Reynolds put the icing on the cake with a field goal on the final play of the game.

South Sydney’s best was undoubtedly Cameron Murray on the back of a two-try haul, but their forwards were improved, while the involvement of Adam Reynolds, Cody Walker and Damien Cook was also improved.

The Warriors meanwhile, end another dismal season at home, and will have to find some motivation to get up for their clash with the red-hot Raiders in Canberra next weekend.

Match preview:

The South Sydney Rabbitohs are running out of time to get themselves ready for the NRL finals, but have another chance to do so on Friday evening as they travel across the ditch to face the New Zealand Warriors. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 6pm (AEST).

The Rabbitohs have been out of sorts recently, and while they snapped a losing streak last weekend by going past the Brisbane Broncos to keep their top four hopes alive, they don’t look like challenging the top sides in knockout footy at the moment.

Being brutally honest about South Sydney, they haven’t played at their best since Round 1, when they smacked the Roosters all over the Sydney Cricket Ground.

There is no one area that jumps off the stats sheet about why they haven’t played as well as they have, but if one thing is clear, they need Cody Walker and Damien Cook to find some form in a hurry.

That’s going to come on the back of their forwards and speed of play, and this could provide them with a good opportunity to find out exactly where they are at.

On their day, the Warriors have a menacing forward pack – one who can trouble any other team in the competition – so Souths could find out exactly where things are this evening.

Injuries and suspensions haven’t helped, but guys like Sam Burgess and Cameron Murray need to get plenty out of this trip.

The other key to the Rabbitohs will be minimising errors and making opposing teams pay for theirs, which is something they should have ample opportunity to work on against a sloppy Warriors side.

Of course, the Auckland-based club are already well and truly out of finals contention in what has been another embarrassing season for the club.

In what is their final home game of the season, they will be looking to give the home fans something to cheer about, but a Warriors side without motivation is one who have been smacked around plenty over the years.

Prediction
Travelling to New Zealand is never a straightforward game, no matter what the form line of the respective teams involved say. Still, Wayne Bennett needs his team to show us a thing or two about their form here.

Rabbitohs by 14.
