Both the Newcastle Knights and Cronulla Sharks have their backs against the wall as they do battle on a Friday night. Stay up to date with their NRL clash with live scores on The Roar from 6pm (AEST).
After starting the season in strong form, the Knights have dropped three straights and suddenly find themselves in a real scrap to get themselves back into a finals position. Following back-to-back tight losses, the wheels well and truly came off last Saturday night in a 42-16 shellacking at the hands of the Gold Coast Titans. They’re in desperate need of a form reversal.
Meanwhile, Cronulla are coming off a tumultuous week that saw coach John Morris controversially depart the club, with Josh Hannay taking over the reigns until Craig Fitzgibbon takes over next year. Their last fortnight has been perfectly fine too, with a 48-10 demolition of North Queensland being followed by a highly competitive effort in a loss to the Roosters.
The Knights have won their last two against the Sharks, including a 38-10 win in last year’s only meeting. They’d dropped eight straight in this rivalry prior to that, however. Cronulla have lost their last two matches in Newcastle after winning five of six.
