Round 5 of the NRL season continues tonight as the Newcastle Knights take on the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles at McDonald Jones Stadium. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match, starting from 5:30pm AEST.

Big things were expected of the Newcastle Knights this season after an impressive recruitment drive headlined by David Klemmer and Jesse Ramien. Many pundits viewed a top eight finish as being a very achievable goal.

The Knights may still reach the semi-finals but with one win in four games, including three games at home, improvement is needed quickly.

Last week against the Dragons, Kalyn Ponga created two quality tries but, once he was contained in the second half, they offered very little in attack against a side there for the taking.

The Knights coaching staff need to find a way to get Ramien into the game, with most of their attack going towards their left side.

Nathan Brown has resisted making many changes, with James Gavet returning from injury at prop, Tim Glasby shifting to lock and Mitch Barnett moving to the bench. Josh King misses out on the 17.

Des Hasler’s Manly side, is coming in off the back of 2 straight wins, the latest being a brave golden point win against the Rabbitohs.

Daly Cherry -vans and Kane Elgey are forming a good combination whilst the Sea Eagles forward pack, featuring Addin Fonua Blake, Martin Taupau and Jake Trbojevic, are vastly underrated.

However, the Sea Eagles have been dealt a cruel blow with Tom Trbojevic to miss up to 9 weeks with a hamstring injury. Brendan Elliott moves to fullback with Moses Suli to start in the centres.

Prediction
With Tom Trbojevic, I think the Sea Eagles would score enough points to beat the Knights. Without him, I’m not so sure.

The Knights are under plenty of pressure to perform this weekend and, at home in front of a big crowd, I’m tipping they might just get there.
