The Sydney Roosters have won 11 of their last 13 over the Newcastle Knights, but if they are to keep the record going, will have to do it without Cooper Cronk and against an in-form side. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 7:55pm (AEST).

The Roosters have had the wood over the Knights in recent years – which, when you look at how the teams have gone is hardly a surprise – but this game has all the makings of a form reversal for the two clubs.

The Knights will come into it with a head full of steam and a style full of confidence after blowing the Dragons out of the water, also at home, last weekend.

Their attack was crisp right throughout the 80 minutes and not for a moment did they let up. Newcastle are now hitting a challenging part of the season, but their four straight wins leading into matches against competition heavyweights in the next few weeks gives them a good starting point to build from.

If they can find a way to keep it going, with Kalyn Ponga settled back in at fullback and David Klemmer going great guns leading the pack, then there is no reason why, on any given day, they can’t beat any team in the competition.

The Roosters, on the other hand, come into this match on the back of their worst performance of 2019 so far, having lost to the Brisbane Broncos last week.

They were poor in that contest, but haven’t been for most of the year, doing more than enough to see them close to the top of the table.

The biggest factor for the Roosters is consistency, with Trent Robinson’s side dropping away at various points of most matches.

Despite that, they have been good, although they will be challenged here with Cooper Cronk ruled out (rested) 24 hours before kick-off.

That lumps the pressure on Luke Keary, who is also undergoing a final Origin audition against another potential candidate in Mitchell Pearce, while the Roosters forwards will have their hands full to handle an in-form Newcastle pack.

Prediction
With Cronk out, this game in the Hunter and the Knights on a roll, I almost want to tip them. I won’t, but it wouldn’t knock me over if there was to be an upset.

Luke Keary and Latrell Mitchell to get it done on the buzzer.

Roosters by 4.
