The Newcastle Knights have a chance to entrench themselves in the NRL’s top four early when they take on Wests Tigers at McDonald Jones Stadium. Stay up to date with their NRL clash with live scores on The Roar from 4:05pm (AEDT).

They haven’t been perfect over the first fortnight, but the Knights have been good enough to collect the two wins. They turned it on after a dogged first-half challenge from the Bulldogs to win their first match 32-16, before being pushed all the way by the Warriors last Friday night. They don’t face a top four team from last year until Round 7, but Newcastle would want to ensure they’re firing on all cylinders before then.

As for the Tigers, they were handed a brutal draw to start the season and it’s gone about as well as predicted. They’ve suffered back-to-back beltings at the hands of Canberra (30-12) and the Sydney Roosters (40-6) and have to play the Eels next week too. Michael Maguire will have to fight hard to keep his side believing in themselves and staying competitive.

The Knights did the double on the Tigers last year with two comprehensive victories – a 42-24 win in Round 2 and a 44-4 demolition in Round 13. The latter of the two was their first win over the joint venture at home since 2016, breaking a run of three straight losses.
