One of the NRL’s most heated rivalries will renew when the North Queensland Cowboys battle the Brisbane Broncos in another ‘Queensland-off’. Follow the match from Townsville with with live scores on The Roar from 7:35pm (AEST).
The Broncos’ remarkable comeback from a 22-0 deficit against the Titans last week was the biggest in club history, and a rare bright spot in a gloomy past few years at the club.
Off-field, the mood has been soured amid speculation gun youngster Xavier Coates could jump ship to the Melbourne Storm next season, though coach Kevvie Walters remains confident he will remain loyal.
Having won three of their last five, the Cowboys’ form was dented by their disappointing loss to the Warriors in Gosford. Captain and talisman Jason Taumalolo’s return is sorely needed as Todd Payten and his charges look to continue their rise up the ladder.
History is on the line for the Broncos in Townsville. A victory would be their 500th at first-grade level since their first season in 1988. To do it over their fiercest rivals and 2015 grand final conquerors would taste very sweet indeed.
