Match preview:

The 2019 NRLW season will conclude with its anticipated grand final, as red-hot favourites the Brisbane Broncos look to make it two titles in a row when they take on the St George Illawarra Dragons. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage of the match from 4:05pm (AEST).

Before the season got underway, it was widely tipped that these two sides would be the ones through to grand final day, and that’s exactly the way it’s played out.

The rivalry between the two sides has been beefed up greatly this season by the transition of a number of Broncos players to the Red V during the off-season, and when they faced off in Round 1, it was Brisbane who came away with the win.

While that game was hard-fought, the Broncos ended up taking it 14 points to 4, and have dominated the NRLW competition ever since, beating the Roosters 20 point to nothing, before being beaten by the Warriors by nothing more than a penalty goal in their final game of the regular season.

It was enough for Brisbane to qualify for the grand final, with plenty of pressure today on Chelsea Baker, Ali Brigginshaw and Lavinia Gould to steer the ship in the club’s second grand final.

After finishing at the bottom of the table last year, it’s been nothing short of a phenomenal couple of weeks for the Dragons, who bounced back from their loss to the Broncos to beat both the Roosters and Warriors.

Their forwards have laid the platform nicely, with Kezie Apps, Maitua Feterika and Hollie Wheeler in particular dominating the lat couple of weeks, allowing for Maddie Studdon and new halves partner Keeley Davis, who has been very impressive, to work their magic.

There isn’t a lot between the two sides heading into the grand final, but one of the big deciding factors of this grand final could be in the back five.

Both have been outstanding, with Julia Robinson and Meg Ward, in particular, setting the tone to get sets off to a good start in an effort to dominate possession.

Rikeya Horne and Shakiah Tungai need to hold their own in this game, while recently-voted female player of the year Jessica Sergis has a pivotal role to play in the centres.

Prediction
The Broncos might have lost last weekend, but they are the top side for a reason. Expect Brigginshaw to have a blinder as they win a tight one.
