Round 9 of the NRL Premiership continues tonight when the Penrith Panthers take on the Parramatta Eels at BlueBet Stadium in Penrith. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7.55pm AEST.

For these two teams from western Sydney, the juggernaut rolls on for one whilst the wheels appear to be falling off for the other. However, the local derby brings out the best in both teams and we can expect a much improved Eels team this week.

Whilst Penrith seems to go on winning streaks at will, their away form is a bit scratchy at the moment. The 18-4 win over the Titans last round came after an error riddled first half. In bad news for Parramatta, the Panthers return home tonight.

Even with the Panthers below their best, Nathan Cleary’s kicking game and the running metres of their back 3 made Penrith a very hard nut to crack.

Ivan Cleary has named the same side that beat the Titans last week however Brian To’o and Moses Leota have both been named in the reserves. Either or both could make a surprise return this week.

For Parramatta, the experiment with Jake Arthur is over and Dylan Brown returns to the 6 jersey tonight. Whilst the selection of Arthur was controversial, he alone was not responsible for the 35-4 drubbing by the Cowboys.

On paper, the Eels have one of the best forward packs in the competition. They need to start playing like it and what better test is there than taking on the premiers.

With Brown moving back to 5/8th, Tom Opacic comes in at centre and Arthur moves back to the reserves.

Prediction

I do give the Eels some hope tonight of what would be a major upset.

The Eels do look a better team with Dylan Brown in the halves and the Parramatta pack will be up for the battle.

However, Penrith are shooting for 22 straight wins at their home ground and it’s hard to tip against that type of trend
