The Queensland Cup goes on the line on Sunday afternoon when the Redcliffe Dolphins and Easts Tigers battle it out in the grand final. Join The Roar for lives scores and a blog of the match, starting at 3pm (AEST).

Redcliffe remain the most successful side in Queensland’s reserve-grade competition having claimed a total of five titles in the league’s 22-year history.

Despite this, their last premiership came in 2006. The Dolphins are in a strong position to claim this year’s title after finishing the regular season in first position.

A major semi-final victory over the Burleigh Bears booked their spot in this week’s decider.

It was a clinical effort from the Dolphins, who stood tall in defence and frustrated the Bears into defeat.

While they may be well rested for this week’s game, Redcliffe will have an even tougher assignment against an Easts outfit that has had no trouble scoring points in this year’s finals series.

The Tigers may have finished the regular season in fifth position, but that hasn’t stopped them from surging to the big dance. Despite entering each of their three finals matchups as underdogs, Easts have won each won by double digits to qualify for this week’s game with Redcliffe.

A lot of their success has come from fullback Scott Drinkwater. While Jahrome Hughes will likely get the nod if Billy Slater is suspended from next week’s NRL decider, another strong effort from Drinkwater could pose a serious headache to first-grade coach Craig Bellamy.

His focus, however, will be on this week’s grand final as the Tigers search for their maiden premiership.

Easts and Redcliffe have played twice this season, with the Dolphins emerging victorious on both occasions.

The first and most impressive win came in round five, with fullback Tony Tumusa scoring three tries as Redcliffe ran away 30-16 winners.

It was a much closer affair later in the year, with the Dolphins outlasting Easts 16-14 at home.

Prediction
Don’t underestimate the power of momentum. The Dolphins were consistent performers during the season but the finals are a completely different ball game. Look for Easts to take their stunning late-season surge all the way to the title.

Tigers by four.
