The gradually healing Sydney Roosters welcome the battling Brisbane Broncos to the SCG. Join The Roar for live scores from 7:55pm (AEST).

If there was one opponent the Broncos didn’t want to face after a tumultuous week in which they finally parted ways with Anthony Seibold, it’s the team who inflicted their worst ever loss earlier this season.

Not only was that 59-0 hammering the largest margin of defeat in club history, it was also the first time in the Broncos’ 281 appearances at Suncorp Stadium/Lang Park that they had ever been held scoreless. It was the moment everyone on the outside of the club realised how truly broken the Broncos really were and still are, so it’s strangely fitting that Seibold’s ignominious farewell would precede the return bout.

In further unhappy news for the Broncos, the home side welcome back skipper Boyd Cordner and Daniel Tupou, pushing Matt Ikuvalu out of the squad. For Brisbane, Anthony Milford is out with a hamstring injury and Issac Luke is suspended. Their places are taken by Sean O’Sullivan and Cory Paix, while Brodie Croft gets a recall via the bench.

The Broncos actually put in their best performance in months last week to go down by two points to the Dragons. That scoreline had threatened to get ugly after the Dragons kicked out to a breezy 12-point lead via two incredibly soft tries. Brisbane fought their way back into the game valiantly, and could easily have scored a drought-breaking win. They lost again though, and the margin of defeat this time could be a lot heavier.
