The Sydney Roosters and Canterbury Bulldogs do battle at the Sydney Cricket Ground in the final match of Round 14. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 4pm (AEST).

With the third-placed Roosters taking on the 16th placed Bulldogs, most pundits will have this match pencilled in as tri-colours win.

Canterbury have looked poor in the three consecutive losses they bring into this match and last week’s loss to the Dragons was a low point in their season.
However, the Roosters enter this duel without sparkling form as well. They were humbled by the Panthers in Round 13 and belted by the Knights a fortnight earlier.

That sets up an interesting match, on what will be a very wet and wild afternoon in Sydney. The rain began early Sunday morning and looks set to continue throughout the day, making the surface a real factor in deciding the winner.

The chooks are depleted with Luke Keary still on the pine and James Tedesco rested for this match. Boyd Cordner will play despite rumour to the contrary, yet the forward pack is weakened with the absence of Jared Waerea-Hargreaves.

There is still plenty of talent in the Roosters’ side and it will be called upon against a Bulldog’s team looking to impress after the capitulation against the Dragons.

Dean Pay has swung the axe yet again for the Bulldogs with Jack Cogger and Adam Elliott demoted. Those changes see Fa’amanu Brown and Corey Harawira-Naera come into the squad.

The forward pack does look impressive for the Bulldogs. Led by Josh Jackson and Dylan Napa, the men up front will need to match the Roosters through the middle of the field if they have any chance of coming away with the two points.

Prediction
In what looms as a low scoring affair considering the lingering wet conditions in Sydney, the Dogs might be buoyed by the scrap that should take place. There is no doubt that the wet conditions will be something of a leveller yet the class of the Roosters may just prove the deciding factor and get them back into winning ways.

Sydney Roosters 12 – Canterbury Bulldogs 4.
