The NRLW has arrived, and it’ll be the Sydney Roosters and New Zealand Roosters to get things underway at Homebush. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 3:05pm (AEST).

Being such a short competition between just four teams (the other two are the Dragons and Broncos), every game is crucial, and starting off with a win will be the key to advancing to grand final day.

Matches being just 60 minutes in length as well, starting off quickly will be crucial.

The Roosters come into the match as favourites, and it’s little surprise when you cast an eye over their squad with plenty of familiar faces for those who watched the Jillaroos World Cup success last year.

Maddie Sutton and Lavina O’mealey form the halves, while Isabelle Kelly and Karina Brown will form a lethal combination on one edge, with Vanessa Foliaki and Zahara Temara also on the park. And that’s without even mentioning Simaima Taufa in the first row.

The Roosters are littered with talent across the squad and could well go onto take out the whole competition in its inaugural year, especially when you add Ruan Sims to the team from next week.

Most of the Warriors squad have been sourced from the Black Ferns squad. 18 of their 22 players in the squad have international experience, with veteran Laura Mariu leading the way and controlling things out of the halves.

They had a convincing trial win back at home last weekend over an Auckland-based team and as is the case with the Black Ferns at international level, they are going to be incredibly hard to beat up front.

If the Warriors can come out and play strongly, dominating the middle, it might set things up nicely for Mariu to take control of the game, but that would appear to be their best chance of beating the Sydney-based club in the opener.

Prediction
Even without Sims, the trip across the Tasman and the talents of O’mealey and Studdon in the halves should be the enough to get the Roosters over the line.

Roosters by 6.
