Round 24 continues tonight when the Sydney Roosters take on the South Sydney Rabbitohs at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7:55pm (AEST).

We get a battle of two top four sides tonight. Whilst the Rabbits are guaranteed the second chance, the Roosters are realistically one loss away from denying themselves that advantage. The Sea Eagles, with two easier games and a good points differential, are just waiting for them to slip up.

Not a round goes by without further injury concerns for the Roosters, with Nat Butcher, Dale Copley and Adam Keighran succumbing against the Dragons. After a Saints fightback, the Roosters were impressive in regrouping to secure a 40-22 win.

With experienced players falling around him, James Tedesco has proved massive for Sydney. He has played a bit of first receiver, defends at fullback and has developed a classy kicking and passing game. He is one of the best players in the NRL at the moment and is carrying this Roosters outfit.

Lachlan Lam moves into the centres for Keighran, with Sam Walker returning to starting halfback. Brad Abbey comes in for Copley. Egan Butcher moves into the second row, with Ben Marschke and Naufahu Whyte the new faces on the bench.

The Rabbitohs looked like real premiership contenders for the first twenty minutes against Penrith. From there though, an understrength Panthers gradually took full control and eased to a 25-12 win.

Cody Walker and Latrell Mitchell failed to fire in the second 40 minutes, but they were behind a badly beaten pack. Souths forwards will need to do much better in the semis to feature in the big one in early October.

Keaon Koloamatangi is suspended, with Jaydn Su’A taking his second-row spot. Jaxson Paulo comes in for the injured Josh Mansour. Junior Tatola will need to work through concussions protocols to play.

Prediction:

The injury-plagued Roosters have done well to beat sides on the fringes of the 8 but they run into a Rabbitohs team focussed on redemption after last week.

James Tedesco will again be in everything, but the Rabbits will have too many threats across the park.
