Pick your NSW Blues side for State of Origin Game 1

State of Origin is almost here for another year, which has brought with it plenty of speculation around who will line up for both sides during the 2018 series.

The New South Wales Blues will likely field a largely revamped squad following their 2-1 defeat to the Maroons in 2017, with new coach Brad Fittler sure to put a new spin on the Blues’ lineup.

Question marks aplenty surround the halves, with injuries to arguably the top two halfbacks in the state – Mitchell Pearce and Nathan Cleary – casting doubt over who will wear the number seven jersey. James Maloney could be shifted to the halfback spot, but that would then lead to a similar headache surrounding the five-eighth position. So tell us, who would you pick?

There are plenty of options for Fittler (and you) to choose from for the rest of the backline, though. James Tedesco, Josh Dugan, Josh Addo-Carr and Tom Trbojevic are all in serious contention for an outside back jersey, but you could opt for a slightly left-field choice like Euan Aitken, Nick Cotric or Clint Gutherson instead.

Up front, there are three main contenders for the hooker’s jersey in Damien Cook, Cameron McInnes and Nathan Peats, and there are plenty of options for the rest of the pack.

Dragons duo Jack De Belin and Paul Vaughan are both pushing for an Origin debut on the back of impressive club form, as is Panthers prop Reagan Campbell-Gillard. Aaron Woods’ play this year has been less impressive, but he has plenty of rep footy experience – is that enough for you to pick him?

Whatever you think, be sure to pick your preferred New South Wales side using the picker above, and don’t forget to share it with all your mates to see who can pick the best Blues team.
