Brother of deceased shoulder charge victim's powerful words surrounding Slater storm

The brother of a footballer who tragically passed away in 2015 as a result of a shoulder charge has spoken out in light of the controversy surrounding the NRL’s Judiciary’s grade 1 charge for Billy Slater.

The debate around the shoulder charge has been reignited, with some suggesting the looming ban is far too harsh.

However, Andrew Ackerman has reiterated the importance of the act being stamped out of the game, in a heartbreaking post to his Facebook account.

“Whenever this is brought up, we re-live the past,” Ackerman said.

“And I am sick of it.”

Ackerman argued that while he knows Slater had no malice in shoulder charging Cronulla-Sutherland Shark Sosaia Feki, he should nonetheless miss the grand final.

Ackerman additionally took aim at several prominent rugby league figures, such as Phil Gould and Andrew Johns, who have slammed the shoulder charge rule.
