Cowboys duo help rescue people caught up in Townsville floods

North Queensland Cowboys pair John Asiata and Antonio Winterstein have gone out of their way to help others left stranded in the Townsville floods.

Hundreds of Townsville residents were forced to evacuate overnight, with thousands of homes also understood to have been impacted by the onslaught.

Vision posted to social media by Winterstein’s wife Brooke shows Asiata and his former teammate using their boat to assist people in returning to dry land.

Brooke streamed the vision live to Facebook in the hopes of identifying others in Idalia who required help.

It hasn’t been the easiest offseason for the NRL, amid a series of club and player-related scandals, with Ben Barba dismissed from the Cowboys without even playing a game for the club off the back of an alleged incident of violence against his partner.

But stories such as these remind fans that there are far more people in the game who go above and beyond to do the right thing than not.
