Extraordinary drama as Leilua cops firework in the eye right before final
Canberra’s Joey Leilua was forced from the field before his side’s final against the Melbourne Storm had even started after the centre was struck by a firework in the lead-up to the match.
Leilua needed to be interchanged due to eye issues, with the situation initially unclear as to whether he would even feature in the game.
Incredibly, his replacement Bailey Simonsson would then score the opening try just three minutes in.
Fortunately for Canberra, after being assessed and reportedly having a foreign object taken out of his eye, Leilua was later able to return.
