Jack Wighton booed after being named the 2019 Clive Churchill medallist
He may have been named the best player afield in the 2019 NRL Grand Final, but Canberra Raiders playmaker Jack Wighton was treated to a frosty reception from the ANZ stadium crowd.
While there was plenty of applause, boos also rang through the broadcast feed as Wighton accepted his medal following the Raiders’ heart-breaking six-point loss to the Sydney Roosters, who became the first team since 1993 to claim back-to-back premierships.
And some of those watching on were unimpressed, calling out the crowd’s behaviour on social media.

Melbourne Storm’s Ryan Papenhuyzen was also among those miffed by the booing.
Wighton deserved it , did not deserve the boo’ing though ..

Wighton is the first player to win the medal while featuring in a losing side since Manly’s Daly Cherry-Evans in 2013.
