'Thought we'd be a top eight side': Titans chairman on Brennan's departure
Gold Coast Titans chairman Dennis Watt says results were the key part of the decision to part ways with Garth Brennan.
Speaking to reporters, Watt explained Brennan’s exit from the club was sealed following the Titans’ lacklustre performance against the Penrith Panthers to start Round 17.
Watt had met with Brennan to discuss his future immediately after the match.
Mal Meninga’s much-publicised review into the club’s football department was only tabled on Monday.
Watt thanked Brennan for his efforts in his stint with the club, having joined in October 2017.
The Titans chairman defended the club’s decision to extend Brennan’s contract towards the end of last year, saying the club had been buoyed by a promising first season under Brennan, along with the arrival of several new recruits and Meninga as Head of Performance and Culture.
Watt says the club will now undergo a process to find their next coach, a task which he says is “critical” for the Titans’ future.
Assistants Luke Burt and Craig Hodges have been named as interim coaches for the remainder of the 2019 season.
