WATCH: Greg Inglis announces his immediate retirement from the NRL

South Sydney Rabbitohs captain Greg Inglis has announced his retirement, effectively immediately.

The 32-year-old, who captained both Australia and Queensland, played 263 games for the Rabbitohs and the Melbourne Storm, scoring 149 tries.

Inglis has battled injury and mental health issues in recent years and had initially hoped to retire at the end of 2020.

However Inglis struggled to get going to start 2019, having made just two appearances in the opening five rounds.

His decision brings an end to a 14-year career featuring three NRL grand final victories, with two of those premierships famously taken away due to the Storm’s salary cap scandal.

Inglis will remain with the Rabbitohs to help in the club’s football and welfare departments.
