The Blues take on the Hurricanes in Auckland in a game that the Blues know they really have to win.

With just a handful of rounds left before the finals, it’s make or break time for a few teams including the men from Auckland.

Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of this exciting clash as Round 13 of the Super Rugby kicks off starting from 5:35pm AEST on Friday.

Blues coach Leon MacDonald has called on his team to put in an improved display compared to their last few outings.

He’s especially looking for a much more physical performance from his forwards. They were on the wrong side of the Brumbies pack and the referee’s whistle last week and will have been confused and disappointed at how they gave away so many points.

MacDonald has made seven changes to his starting fifteen as a result of a combination of poor performances and injuries.

Up front the Blues will be in a good position with James Parsons and Karl Tu’inukuafe both starting as well as Patrick Tuipulotu and flanker Dalton Papalii.

There’s some decent experience and talent coming back into the pack and the Canes can expect a rough night.

The Canes however have made very changes with perhaps the most notable being the return of captain and All Blacks scrum half, TJ Perenara.

The Canes back line looks scary and while they have moved Chase Tiatia to the bench that doesn’t provide any respite for the Blues as it’s Ben Lam who will start on the wing.

In the past couple of games the Canes have got off to incredible starts scoring almost a point a minute in the opening quarter.

Even when the opposition have come back at them, that 20-odd point lead is just too much to claw back and the Canes are building great momentum and form as the Finals approach.

One clash that will be interesting to watch will be in the forwards. The Canes have often been regarded as being a team of incredible backs with average forwards but this season they’ve started to change that reputation.

Ardie Savea in particular has been putting in player of the season type performances and it’ll be exciting to see these two packs go at each other.

Prediction
The Blues have plenty of motivators this week ranging from the fear of dropping out of finals contention, to celebrating James Parsons’ 100th Super Rugby game.

However the Canes are just too good at the moment and another fast start will see them get out to an unassailable lead that the Blues will never hunt down.
