Match result:

The Brumbies have smashed the Chiefs at home, running in eight tries to post a huge 54-17 win.

Veteran Christian Lealiifano was the star of the show, setting up several tries and kicking brilliantly with the boot.

Despite missing several first-teamers, the Brumbies were dominant throughout the register their first victory of the season.

The Chiefs had an error-filled night and found no weaknesses in the ACT defence.

Damian McKenzie kicked the Chiefs in front with an early penalty. But then it was all Brumbies with Tevita Kuridrani soon powering over.

Tom Banks was the next to score, after Lealiifano’s brilliant no-look pass. McKenzie then missed a penalty goal attempt and the home team made the Chiefs pay.

Lealiifano made a line break and set up Chance Peni for another try. The Kiwis managed to respond when Ataata Moeakola dived over after sustained pressure.

But it was not a sign of things to come as Liam McCaffrey touched down after another excellent Brumbies scrum.

Right on half-time the home added another try, Folau Fainga’a off a rolling maul, to make it 33-10 at the break.

The one-sided affair, particularly in the forwards, continued in the second half as Peni finished off a 90-metre move started by Lealiifano.

The Chiefs managed a second try when Samisoni Taukei’aho powered over off the back of a scrum.

But there was still time for the Brumbies to bag two more tries before full-time, sub Josh Mann-Rea after a maul and Kuridrani off a nice line to grab a brace.

The Brumbies play host to the Chiefs in Round 2 with both teams eager to register their first win of the season. Join The Roar from 7:45pm for live scores and a blog of the match.

The Brumbies were beaten by the Rebels last weekend, while the boys from Hamilton were pipped at the death by the Highlanders. Both will be keen to put those losses behind with a W.

They might be at home but it won’t be easy for the Canberrans. They will be missing David Pocock, along with wingers Henry Speight and Toni Pulu through injury. Replacements Tom Cusack, Andy Muirhead and Chance Peni all have huge shoes to fill.

Former Manly flyer Tom Wright also comes on to the bench for the Brumbies. The ACT franchise will have their hands full trying to stop a Chiefs outfit stacked with some outstanding young Kiwi talent. Their defence against the Rebels in round one was just not good enough and will have to improve.

Led by All Black Brodie Retallick, they have the livewire Damian McKenzie coming back from injury. With fellow All Black Anton Lienert-Brown in the centres, and talented fullback Shaun Stevenson, this is an attack that can rack up points at will.

This will be Retallick’s 100th game for the Chiefs and he remains one of the best locks on the planet. The Wakiato side will come to Canberra confident of continuing NZ’s outstanding record of wins over Australian teams.

The Chiefs have beaten the Brumbies four times in their past four encounters. Can they end the streak?

Prediction
The Chiefs have too many attacking weapons and an excellent bench to draw from as well.

The Chiefs to win by 10 points or more.
