Show Preview
The Brumbies start firm favourites today as they host a Waratahs side that is having a Super Rugby campaign to forget. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match from 4:05pm (AEDT).
It has been a season of woe for NSW thus far, with the confidence from their win over the Lions completely erased following a comprehensive defeat to the Chiefs last week in Wollongong.
Despite remaining competitive for over a half of rugby, the Waratahs once again fell apart and were punished by the Chiefs, demonstrating the gulf in class that exists between NSW and the best teams in the competition.
That gulf in class could be on show yet again this afternoon as the Waratahs tackle a Brumbies side with only the one defeat next to their name – a frustrating last-minute loss to the Highlanders a few rounds ago at home.
Since then, the Brumbies were able to defeat the Chiefs in New Zealand before dispatching the Sunwolves easily in Wollongong. The only concern for Brumbies fans revolves around the fact that the Sunwolves are now easy-beats and could leave the Brumbies a little complacent heading into today’s contest.
With that said, the Brumbies set the highest of standards in the Australian conference and results don’t lie. Last season they finished a game within a grand final berth and this season they have only the one defeat next to their name. The Brumbies don’t often beat themselves and it will take a complete effort from the Waratahs to get the job done this afternoon.
Prediction
On the balance of play, upsets are always a possibility but confidence in the Waratahs camp is low. The Brumbies meanwhile are on course to challenge for the title and simply have too much momentum going for them this afternoon to let this match slip from their grasp.
