The Crusaders will play their first game at home for more than three months when they take on the Chiefs in Christchurch. Join The Roar for live scores from 1:35pm (AEST).

When these two met earlier in the year it was a clash between the two Super Rugby favourites. In Super Rugby Aotearoa, though, the Chiefs have been well off the pace, their misfiring lineout costing them in two successive defeats.

The Crusaders, after having the bye in Round 1, looked mostly like their usual selves in getting the better of the Hurricanes last week, although like all teams they struggled with the more strident law interpretations on their first week back. A week to familiarize themselves with the new refereeing directives will only help them

The defending champions have been dealt a heavy blow through with captain Scott Barrett ruled out for the entire season with a plantar fascia injury which requires surgery. Barrett’s loss makes bringing Sam Whitelock back to the team during the shutdown for COVID-19 all the more important.

The Chiefs did get the better of the Crusaders in that early-season encounter, but that was at home with a healthier side. On the road with forward injuries of their own to worry about, it’s going to be a tough ask for Warren Gatland’s men today.
