France and Argentina begin their World Cup campaigns with a blockbuster Pool C clash. It’s a repeat of the 2007 tournament opener in which Los Pumas stunned the Stade de France crowd by winning 17-12 before proceeding to defeat the hosts again in the bronze medal match.
Les Blues, who were runners-up in 1987, 1999 and 2011, have won four of their previous six Test matches against Argentina, including their last two on the spin.
They have opted for Toulouse pairing Romain Ntamack and Antoine Dupont as their halves partnership. In Dupont France have a livewire who can cause chaos for opposition defenders at this World Cup.
Los Pumas are not in good form having lost nine Tests in a row but this is a World Cup and Argentina tend to deliver on the big stage.
Their key men include influential captain Pablo Matera and Stade Francais flyhalf Nicolas Sanchez, who was the top point-scorer as Argentina reached the semi-finals four years ago.
France lead in overall matches played between the two by 36 wins to 14 but they will not forget 2007 and will be seeking revenge here.
This crunch fixture has all the makings of a classic and in a pool that also features England, Tonga and the United States, it could prove decisive.
France to edge a tight contest by ten points.
