If the 2019 Super Rugby season were to come to an end right this minute then the Highlanders would be sitting outside of the finals while the Bulls get in – but that could all change, and very quickly.
The Highlanders are perched just outside that top eight that will make it into the quarterfinals. Get a win tonight and they’ll be level with the Sharks in eighth on wins, missing out only due to points difference.
The Bulls have a little more certainty in their favour – with seven wins to their name, they’re on par with a side like the Rebels and a notch ahead of the Sharks.
They’ve got a tough one facing the Lions in Johannesburg next week though, and if they were to lose both of their last two matches in this season they could just miss out.
A win tonight cements the Bulls as a finals side, while for the Highlanders it is desperately needed to keep them in the mix.
