The Highlanders are aiming for a fourth consecutive win over an Australian opponent when they battle the winless NSW Waratahs. Tune into events from Dunedin with live scores on The Roar from 5:05pm (AEST).

The Waratahs have shown heart during the Super Rugby Trans-Tasman tournament, outperforming the Rebels to sit second-last on the table. However, the fact remains they’re still without a win in 2021, and have just two games left to break the drought.

Injuries have bitten hard for interim co-coaches Chris Whitaker and Jason Gilmore, with no less than three of their props in Angus Bell, Harry Johnson-Holmes and Te Tera Faulkner ruled out. Five-eighth Ben Donaldson will also miss with a groin injury.

The Highlanders have injuries of their own, with All Blacks jets Aaron Smith and Shannon Frizell both out: Frizell with an ankle injury, Smith to comply with the rule that All Blacks can’t play five domestic games in a row.

Whether that will make a difference remains to be seen; but given the Highlanders likely need at least one bonus point win to force their way into the Super Rugby Trans-Tasman final, Smith’s absence in particular could be decisive.
