A tough Super Rugby battle awaits for the Queensland Reds as they travel to Argentina to take on a Jaguares side eager to bounce back following a frustrating defeat to the Hurricanes last week. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match from 10am (AEDT).

After producing a commanding performance against the Lions in the opening round, the Jaguares let a great opportunity slip in Round 2, suffering a last-minute defeat to the Hurricanes after building an 11-point advantage in the second half.

It is no doubt a tough lesson to digest for a Jaguares side that still has a lot to learn when it comes to game management and producing the killer instinct required to truly challenge for a Super Rugby title come season’s end.

Now, a new challenge awaits as they host a Reds outfit that, like the Hurricanes before them, are coming off a tough loss in South Africa against the Lions before venturing to Buenos Aires.

With three home games to start the season, the Jaguares really need to bear fruit at home before they go on a tough road trip, so the pressure will be on to secure the win.

In their defence, the Jaguares have an outstanding record against Australian opposition, winning nine of their last ten matches – including their last meeting against the Reds.

To make matters worse for Queensland, the Reds have only won two of their last 16 matches away from home, but they were competitive against the Lions last week in a seven-point defeat.

Although the Jaguares start strong favourites, this is a real danger game for the hosts. The Reds have tasted success in Buenos Aires before and will aim up in a bid to kick-start their season.

Prediction

The Jaguares, at their best, should get the job done tonight but complacency can often filter into their performances and the Reds will have their chances to build pressure just like the Hurricanes did last week. Indeed, the longer this game stays close, the more likely the Reds will cause the upset.
