A tough Super Rugby battle awaits for the Queensland Reds as they travel to Argentina to take on a Jaguares side eager to bounce back following a frustrating defeat to the Hurricanes last week. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match from 10am (AEDT).

After producing a commanding performance against the Lions in the opening round, the Jaguares let a great opportunity slip in Round 2, suffering a last-minute defeat to the Hurricanes after building an 11-point advantage in the second half.

It is no doubt a tough lesson to digest for a Jaguares side that still has a lot to learn when it comes to game management and producing the killer instinct required to truly challenge for a Super Rugby title come season’s end.

Now, a new challenge awaits as they host a Reds outfit that, like the Hurricanes before them, are coming off a tough loss in South Africa against the Lions before venturing to Buenos Aires.

With three home games to start the season, the Jaguares really need to bear fruit at home before they go on a tough road trip, so the pressure will be on to secure the win.

In their defence, the Jaguares have an outstanding record against Australian opposition, winning nine of their last ten matches – including their last meeting against the Reds.

To make matters worse for Queensland, the Reds have only won two of their last 16 matches away from home, but they were competitive against the Lions last week in a seven-point defeat.

Although the Jaguares start strong favourites, this is a real danger game for the hosts. The Reds have tasted success in Buenos Aires before and will aim up in a bid to kick-start their season.

Prediction

The Jaguares, at their best, should get the job done tonight but complacency can often filter into their performances and the Reds will have their chances to build pressure just like the Hurricanes did last week. Indeed, the longer this game stays close, the more likely the Reds will cause the upset.

That the Reds were under a lot off pressure. I never said I do not have issues with the refs. Actually I do and I have a firm advocate for neutral ref.

Hi Nobrain Just look at the penalty count. 13-2 in favour of the Jags. What does that say to you? BTW, I actually the way the Jags play and have an affinity for them. Tis the ref I have issues with. Seems like you do too!

Easy to present stats to look favourable to your narrative, what is the actual stats on penalty count? Easy to say SA home teams are favoured, but is it an average of 20-1 or 10-9?

Whinge all day. Fact is ref/tmo should red card the wing who later score two tries. If the 14-3 penalty count would be for the winning side Oz Will ve complaining bout ill discipline or the ref should Cars this and that.

Yeah I'm surprised more teams don't contest the 5m lineout. Even if you don't win the ball if you disrupt the opposition even a little bit you can stop them forming the driving maul.

I have no horse in this race, I'm uruguayan and I agree that the meaning was "do not complain!"

Lots of comments here about the Ref's incompetence and the Reds incompetence. Whatever! That's sport. If you're a real Reds fan, which I am, then what you just saw from this young team is 40 mins of champagne rugby. The opening 40 showed what this team is capable of when it all comes together. When they can do this for 80 they are going to tear teams to shreds.

Why not? Any rule against??? So if the Argies must learn English, Saffas, oz and kiwis should learn Spanish also. A bit of culture its not bad, makes you better.

Apart from a couple of scrums, Topou went missing. Expect more involvement from him.

No... just hold all refs accountable for constant bad performances. Just so happens the consistent part of SA refs is when they are the home town ref.

Winning is a habit, and one that unfortunately for our players they haven’t experienced much lately. It means that rather than winning a disproportionate number of close games, we lose a disproportionate number. Unfortunately, I think it’s a vicious cycle and the more close games we lose the harder it is to break the cycle. Our think we have some quality players, but they aren’t used to winning. They need both better coaching and to start winning more of the close games (including through some luck) for things to turn around I think.

You should start a petition to ban all SA referees, ate least then the moaning and groaning and blaming can stop.

I did not see a rep on tv here, Argies on field reporters said at the moment without any doubt, that it was illegal scrummaging from reds. I must say Espn guys are pretty impartial regarding rules.

It was a perfect phrase from the ref. The correct translation in Sports Argie Spanish its : do not complain !! I AM the ref. So the literal translation, although is correct, did not Express the real meaning. You are suggesting that Anselmi will help Jags to win. Please every 45 million Argie will agree to me that the meaning was that. Regarding language, SANZAAR includes a Spanish nation, even Eng is official language, is their any rule against Spanish, Afrikaans, Zulú, Xhosa, Maorí, or any other for the refs?????

SA refs seem to do just fine professionally with their biased home game performances. Guess he felt that is just they way you get a head as a super rugby ref.
