After a disastrous Super Rugby AU campaign that saw the Waratahs go winless and controversially part ways with coach Rob Penney, many Australian fans hold grim fears for the New South Welshmen as they go up against ostensibly superior opposition. The Hurricanes, however, were the bottom side in Aotearoa in 2021 so, if the Tahs are going to grab a win in 2021, this could be their best chance.
They’ll go in tonight with a relatively settled lineup, especially compared to many other Australian sides. Mark Nawaqanitawase and Charlie Gamble get a chance to strut their stuff in the run-on XV – James Ramm missing with injury – while Will Harrison and Carlo Tizzano also join the lineup on the bench.
The biggest team news at the Hurricanes is arguably their new-look bench, featuring four new faces. However, they’ve also added Alex Fidow, Isaia Walker-Leawere and Peter Umaga-Jensen to the starting XV.
