The Sharks and Lions will put plenty on the line in their Round 15 Super Rugby clash, with both teams in a struggle to qualify for the finals. Join The Roar for live scores from 1:15am (AEST).

While the team who beat the Lions in last year’s grand final, the Crusaders, have rolled on without so much as a problem, the Lions have had a rough season and are now hanging onto their finals hopes by a thread with a month of rugby still to be played.

The South African conference continues to be a beast of a thing to try and work out, but the situation is becoming clearer with only weeks to go, and the importance of every remaining game is moving up the gears at a rapid pace each and every week.

As it stands, the teams are just two and three points off the top of the South African conference respectively, and so the automatic home final chance still exists.

However, this is a huge game, and the Lions will bring some confidence in having got their attack rolling across the last fortnight, beating the Waratahs and Highlanders.

They aren’t playing perfectly, and defensive issues need to be cleaned up, but their attack is what will take them any distance in the finals, if they are to go that far.

The Sharks, on the other hand, blew a golden opportunity at points last weekend. Having managed to hold the ladder-leading Crusaders to a draw in Round 13, they found a way to lose to the Chiefs by six points last weekend, in what was just another frustrating throw away of competition points.

They need to be perfect defensively if they are to go with the Lions in this one.

Prediction
Neither team have been setting the world on fire to be fair, but the Lions have just shown a few signs in the last fortnight – more specifically – winning games when a long way away from their best. They should take the win here and move one step closer to knockout rugby in a month’s time.

Lions by 7.
