The Stormers will take on the Jaguares in Round 5 of Super Rugby, with both teams desperate for a win in the tight South African conference. Join The Roar for live scores from 4:05am (AEDT).

As it stands, heading into the fifth round of action, the Stormers sit bottom of the conference – but are the only team to have had a bye – while the Jaguares are in third, but just four points off the lead and one ahead of their Round 5 opponents.

With the Crusaders the only team doing the bolt across the other conferences, the race for finals spots is already promising to be a hotly-contested one, and it makes the importance on middle of the road games like this enormous.

It could realistically be an eight-point swing either way, and after a bye, the Stormers will be out to improve on their strong start to the season before they have to leave South Africa on a four-week road trip which will take them to New Zealand and Australia.

Their two wins came in their last two games, surprising the Lions and backing that up with a strong win over the Sharks, where their defence and forwards have dominated.

If they are to win this game, they’ll need more of the same in the forwards, because the Jaguares are strong there.

It’s been an inconsistent start to the season for the Jaguares, but even when on the road, they have shown some of the good form which allowed them to make an incredible run at the back end of 2018 and make the finals.

Their last game was their first on the road, and came with their second loss to the Lions for the season, but outside of that, they have only had wins, with their forwards playing extremely good rugby to beat the Bulls and Blues at home in Round 2 and 3.

Still, they will need their attack to flow as it did last week if they are to come away with a win over the tough Stormers on the road.

Prediction
The Stormers have been surprisingly good this year, and with a bye and home ground advantage at their advantage, they should get the job done.

Stormers by 15.
