The Bledisloe Cup returns for 2022 as the Wallabies and the All Blacks duke it out in the unfamiliar location of Melbourne. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7:45pm AEST.

An AFL heartland, Melbourne hasn’t seen a Bledisloe Test since 2010, which the All Blacks won 49-28.

It hasn’t been unusual for the Wallabies to find themselves on the end of a pasting from their rivals across the ditch, with the clock reaching 20 years since Australia last hoisted the cup. With just two Tests in this year’s series, it means the Wallabies can’t afford to lose a single match to end the two-decades long barren run.

Dave Rennie has made a whopping eight changes to the starting XV for the crucial game, with regulars Nic White, Fraser McReight and Jordan Petaia to start on the bench. The versatile Pete Samu comes in at number seven, but the big story is Bernard Foley making his return to the gold jersey for the first time since the 2019 Rugby World Cup.

The All Blacks’ form of late has been mixed, having lost home Tests to Ireland and Argentina (losing two to the former, and the series) for the first time. However, with only two matches to play per team to come, they sit atop the Rugby Championship leaderboard, albeit a solitary bonus point clear of the Wallabies in second.

Ian Foster has opted for size and size aplenty in his pack, despite losing Ardie Savea from the trip due to the impending birth of his first child. It means Brodie Retallick moves back into the starting XV, having returned off the bench from a fractured cheekbone in their thumping win over the Pumas.

Just once since 2015 have the Wallabies won a live-rubber Bledisloe Cup test, and the All Blacks will be keen to assert their dominance at Marvel Stadium and head back across to New Zealand for Game 2 of the series with the trophy already secured.
