With both sides suffering defeats in round 1 of the competition, the vitality of this clash cannot be understated. As such, both coaches have rung in the changes for this clash.

Wallabies coach Michael Cheika’s backline has undergone a stunning makeover, with Reece Hodge, Tevita Kuridrani and vice-captain Samu Kerevi the only survivors from the 35-17 defeat at the hands of the ‘B’ Springboks last week.

Kurtley Beale replaces Tom Banks at fullback after impressing off the bench in last week’s game. Marika Koroibete also comes into the side on the wing at the expense of Dane Haylett-Petty after he had a shocker against South Africa.

It’s also a new halves pairing for the Wallabies, with Will Genia replacing Nic White at halfback while Christian Lealiifano makes his long-awaited return to the national side after being sidelined for several years due to a battle with leukemia.

After being arguably the stand-out Australian fly-half in this year’s Super Rugby competition, Lealiifano will don the number 10 jersey for the first time in his international career, after playing at 12 or coming off the bench in all his previous outings.

There is just one change to the Wallabies forward pack, with Scott Sio replacing James Slipper at loosehead prop, with Slipper moving back to the bench.

There are several changes to the bench too, with Tolu Latu replacing Uelese in the 16 jumper, while James Slipper and Nic White both move back to the bench after starting last week.

Finally, renowned bad-boy James O’Connor makes his return to the Wallabies side after a 6-year absence. An immensely talented player who can cover all positions in the backs, it’ll be truly fascinating to see what Cheika decides to do with O’Connor.

For the Pumas, head coach Mario Ledesma has made five changes from the side that lost narrowly to the World No.1 All Blacks last week.

At hooker, Augustin Creevy is out injured and will be replaced by Julian Montoya. At No.8 Ortega Desio has been replaced by Facundo Isa, while Tomas Lezana will start in the backrow ahead of Marcos Kremer.

In the backs, Matias Moroni will move from the wing to outside centre, replacing Matias Orlando, with Santiago Cordero moving onto the wing. Joaquin Tuculet comes into the side at fullback after missing last week’s game through injury. He replaces Emiliano Boffelli, who impressed in Beunos Aires against the All Blacks.

Finally, prop Santiago Socino comes onto the bench to make his international debut.

Prediction
Despite both sides losing last week, it’s probably fair to say that the Pumas are in better form than the Wallabies.

To lose to the All Blacks by just 4 points is an incredible effort by Argentina. They stayed in the contest for the full 80 minutes, and they will be confident that a repeat effort in this game can get them the all-important win against the Wallabies.

The Wallabies were poor against the ‘B’ Springboks. Michael Cheika has made plenty of changes, but none that really rectify the Wallabies’ main issue in that Springbok game – that is not being able to win the ball back in the ruck.

The changes to the backline are exciting. Lealiifano and Genia deserve their spots – they’ve both been in great form in Super Rugby, particularly Lealiifano at the back end of the season.

Koroibete and Beale are always exciting to watch, and the injection of James O’Connor into the backline late in the game has me absolutely salivating.

These changes indicate that Cheika is chasing points.

The Wallabies have been traditionally successful at Suncorp Stadium, and the changes to the side will give them confidence that they can put a bit of a score on (if they have enough ball which remains to be seen).

I think the Wallabies will be too stong.

Wallabies by 5.
