Eddie Jones lightheartedly grills reporter on 'modern rugby'

Eddie Jones was in an understandably jovial mood following his side’s demolition of the Wallabies, which saw England secure a World Cup semi-final berth.

Despite lacking possession, England still managed to dominate play, scoring four tries including a first-half brace for Jonny May on their way to a 40-16 victory.

Jones was asked in his post-match press conference whether the performance and result had vindicated his “big call” to demote George Ford to the bench and move Owen Farrell to fly-half.

However, Jones argues he didn’t drop the 26-year-old, maintaining his philosophy that modern rugby is about 23 players and not 15.

“Maybe you guys have got to start reporting differently. Maybe you’ve got to stop reporting like you did 30 years ago,” Jones said.

“Come into the modern rugby. Join us, join us! The invitation there’s to join us, guys. Rugby’s changed. It’s a 23-man game.”
