Adelaide United will be hoping home-ground advantage is enough to give them an edge against the high-flying Central Coast Mariners. Stay up to date with their A-League clash with live scores on The Roar from 7:05pm (AEDT).
Central Coast currently sit four points clear at the top of the table, and it’s beginning to look like this isn’t some early-season flash in the pan, but instead that they’re genuine title threats.
They have the best goal difference in the competition with plus-seven, have won their last three and four of their last five, and with the likes of Alou Kuol terrorising opposition defences, it’s hard to see them slowing down anytime soon.
Adelaide are a long way from the heights that the Mariners are enjoying. Indeed, their formline is the complete opposite of tonight’s opponents: they’ve lost three on the trot and four of their past five fixtures. Against the league leaders, that bodes poorly.
They desperately need to tighten up at the back – they shipped four goals against Macarthur last week, and it’s been the best part of a month since they kept a clean sheet – but their attack is also troublesome. The Reds haven’t scored more than a single goal in a game since January 20, when they lost 5-3 to Perth, and against the free-scoring Mariners, that will need to change if they want to get any kind of a result tonight.
