Adelaide United meet Melbourne City at Coopers Stadium in Round 8 A-League action. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7pm (AEDT).

Adelaide, even without the much longed for striker that Marco Kurz asked for during the week, have sneaked into the top four on the A-League ladder and will hope to keep pace with the Victory and Glory this evening.

The Reds aren’t scoring a whole stack of goals, yet neither are they allowing too many and the result has been a side that is difficult to break down, without being venomous in attack.

City are very difficult to read. Still amidst the controversy surrounding Bruno Fornaroli, the team is playing well, yet not well enough to be a real threat to the runaway competition leaders.

Even so, they sit fifth, just a point behind their opponents today and a win would be morale boosting and a classic example of a team flying well and truly below the radar.

Adelaide welcome back Taylor Regan, Ryan Kitto and Ken Ilso for this match yet lose Apostolos Stametelopoulos with a squad strain.

Much of the attacking responsibility will fall at the feet of Craig Goodwin and Ben Halloran, with Marco Kurz hoping that his stop-gap solution to the striking issue can drag the Reds through until George Blackwood is back on deck.

City welcome back Ritchie De Laet and Osama Malik and Warren Joyce will be hoping Luke Brattan and Lachlan Wales can continue to develop their combination up front.

Along with Riley McGree, they appear to be the keys to City producing enough goals without their Uruguayan superstar on the pitch in the foreseeable future.

Prediction
Adelaide should be too strong for City in their home stadium. This could be the tightest match of the weekend with a top-four spot on the line and two teams still grappling to find top form.

Adelaide United 1, Melbourne City 0
