Adelaide United host Perth Glory at Bankwest Stadium in Thursday night football. Join The Roar for live scores from 7:30pm (AEST).

It’s a real six-pointer in this one between two sides with finals aspirations, with Perth sitting fifth on the A-League ladder on 34 points and Adelaide right behind them in sixth on 31 points. Perth, however, boasts a game in hand on the Reds, so a win here would hold them in very good stead for a top-six finish.

New Adelaide boss Carl Veart now has two matches as head coach under his belt, picking up a point on Saturday against Wellington to go along with his side’s win over Brisbane. He will be looking to keep this positive start to his tenure going against a Perth side that has won one and lost one since the break.

Tony Popovic will be hoping to break away from the chasing pack in the hunt for the last two or three finals spots in this one. He will have some cause for concern after his side’s two games following the break, with just two goals scored. Their attack has looked a bit toothless and they are clearly missing talisman Deigo Castro’s silky skills and ability to unlock a defence with a single deft pass.

Popovic, known for his defensive mindset as a player and as a coach, will certainly be looking to ensure his side don’t concede more than one goal again, or, ideally, keep a clean sheet. If Glory can beat Adelaide and get on a run, they do have a formidable squad that is capable of doing damage in the finals series. They obviously have unfinished business from last season and will be looking to put themselves in a position to avenge that grand final loss against Sydney FC.

Prediction
This one will be tight and it’s unlikely to produce many goals. We’ll go for a Popovic special: Perth 1-0.
