Adelaide United host Sydney FC at ANZ Stadium. Join The Roar for live scores from 7:30pm (AEST).
It’s Adelaide’s penultimate game of the regular season and they are still in a battle to secure finals football.
Their destiny is not completely in their own hands, but two wins from two would put them in a very strong position. The Reds are unbeaten in their three matches back from the break, picking up seven out of a possible nine points along the way.
They meet a Sydney side in a rare form slump, so there’s a good opportunity here for Adelaide.
For the premiers, it’s a chance to get back on the right track after a loss in their most recent match. The performance against Melbourne City was characterised by a slow start, two defensive lapses for the City goals and a rather insipid attacking display.
The reigning champions are in a form slump, for sure. It’s pertinent to keep perspective – it’s only two losses.
But the worrying signs for Steve Corica would be their lack of killer instinct in failing to close out a lead against Newcastle, and a pretty serious lack of desire last time out.
He definitely wouldn’t have been pleased with the performance against City and will be doing what he can on the training pitch to ensure complacency doesn’t seep into his side’s game.
The performance for Sydney tonight will be important and could shape the mentality the team approaches the finals series with.
Sydney to come out with a much better performance in this one and just sneak past Adelaide. 2-1 Sydney FC.
